Presented
to the Australan Airmail Society by Our Life Member,
Arthur Bergen (pictured)
who will be 96 years young on 24th May 2010 (Empire Day), presented
it to the Australian Airmail Society at its meeting held on Wednesday
7 April 2010.
Arthur commissioned the work and provision
will be made for it to be hung in a prominent place in SAPHIL House.

Enclosed within the picture frame are -
(1) Part of the original instrument panel from Harry Butler's "Red
Devil" salvaged during refurbishment of the aircraft in 1989
(2) Fuselage during refurbishment (which was done in suburban Adelaide)
(3) Modern postcard of the refurbished "Red
Devil" which is housed at Minlaton on Yorke Peninsula
(4) Fabric used as souvenir postcard (fabric from the refurbished
aircarft was also salvaged - Arthur made just four of these postcards
using
the reverse side of the fabric as the other side is painted red)
The original instrument panel was actually two pieces of ply (each
4-5 ply) glued together which, over the years, had almost become
separated.
Arthur is also having the second piece mounted in a smaller frame
and will be presenting it to the Minlaton Branch of the National
Trust
for their Museum.
When ready, a few of the Society officials will accompany Arthur
to Minlaton on a pre-arranged day trip to present it to the Museum.
Arthur has also recently presented a trophy to the newly formed Australian
Postcard Society based in Adelaide - it will appropriately be called
the Empire Trophy.
